In Kashmir, Shia community took out processions in several places on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and others in the battle of Karbala (Today’s Iraq) 1353 years ago.
The main procession was taken out in downtown area of Zadibal with where a sideable population of Shias lives. Besides, mourning processions were also taken out in towns like Sopore, Pattan, Mirgund.

Many Sunni Muslims also joined the procession of mourners as a mark of solidarity.
Ashura processions were also taken out in Pattan and in other parts of J&K.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was seen distributing refreshments to the mourners at Zadibal
The day was observed with religious fervor across Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities on Tuesday imposed restrictions in Abi Guzar area of Srinagar to prevent members of the Shia community from taking out procession to mark Ashoora.

However, thousands of Shias participated in ‘Alam’ and ‘Zuljanah’ procession in downtown Srinagar which passed through Alamgari Bazar and concluded at Zadibal Imambargah.
