The Indian Navy has expanded significantly in the past few decades and has demonstrated exceptional performance in several key operations, which are as follows

Operation Raahat (2015) Launched in 2015, Operation Raahat saw the Indian Armed Forces evacuate citizens from war-torn Yemen, with INS Sumitra leading the mission. INS Mumbai and INS Tarkash provided security, rescuing both Indian and foreign nationals.

Operation Parakram (2002) Operation Parakram was a major military standoff between India and Pakistan in 2002, with the Indian Navy playing a vital role. For the first time, 26 Navy cadets, led by a Navy captain, were part of the operation.

Operation Trident (1971) During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, Operation Trident targeted Karachi port, marking the first use of anti-ship missiles by the Indian Navy. The operation destroyed multiple Pakistani ships without any Indian casualties and is commemorated on Navy Day (4th December).

Operation Python (1971) Launched after Operation Trident, Operation Python targeted Karachi port during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, successfully striking a Pakistani ship without any Indian vessel losses. It further weakened Pakistan’s navy and reinforced India’s maritime dominance.

Operation Talwar (1999) Launched during the Kargil War, Operation Talwar involved a naval blockade near Karachi port to stop the flow of oil and fuel to Pakistan. Indian Navy ships patrolled the Arabian Sea, leading Pakistan to request India’s help due to a fuel shortage, prompting diplomatic actions.

Operation Cactus (1988) Launched in 1988, Operation Cactus aimed to stabilize the Maldives after a coup attempt. The Indian Armed Forces, including INS Godavari and INS Betwa, played a key role in restoring the Maldivian government.
