Uber launched India’s first-ever water transport service, Uber Shikara, on Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The service allows tourists to book shikara rides via the Uber app, blending technology with tradition.
Uber Shikara aims to enhance the tourist experience while providing economic opportunities for local shikara owners.
It marks the first water transport service in Asia, following similar offerings in European cities like Venice.
Uber has initially partnered with seven local shikara owners and plans to expand the fleet based on demand.
Rides will be available from 10 AM to 5 PM and can be booked up to 15 days in advance.
The fare for the rides will follow government-regulated rates, ensuring fair pricing for tourists.
Uber does not charge any fees from shikara owners, with the full payment going to them.
To book, users must open the Uber app, enter ‘Shikara Ghat No. 16’ as the start and end point.
After confirming the time and date, users can book and enjoy a seamless, fixed-price ride on Dal Lake.
