The five-day celebrations on the occasion of the 721st annual Urs of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, one of the most revered Sufis in the sub-continent, began at his mausoleum in Delhi on Monday.
Among his devotees are 83 Pakistanis who crossed the Wagah-Attari border on Saturday. Earlier, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had informed the media that 83 Pakistanis have been granted VISA to travel to India for the 5-day urs.
"Enriched with profound spiritual knowledge and wisdom, the teachings of Sufi saints have served to build bridges between people belonging to different religions and ideologies. Their teachings and their work will continue to inspire us to uphold human values and walk on the path of harmony."
Prime Minister Modi said that Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya served humanity throughout his life, transcending social and cultural boundaries, and his great works will continue to inspire generations. Every aspect of his life—be it music, literature, or philosophy—continues to be a guiding light for the younger generation even today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to his followers and devotees on the occasion. Prime Minister described the life and teachings of Hazrat Nizamuddin as relevant even in today's times.
"Urs Mubarak is a golden opportunity for the followers of Hazrat Nizamuddin to reflect on his life and message. His life remains a source of inspiration even today and his teachings have been giving direction to society for centuries," the Prime Minister said.He said, "Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya followed the principles of religious harmony, love and compassion in his time and that is why his teachings remain relevant in our society even today. These values of his life will continue to inspire us towards building an inclusive society and nation."
The 5-day Urs is organized on the death anniversary of Sufi saint. This is an occasion for their followers to reflect on their teachings and pay tribute to them.

Thousands of followers and devotees from all over the country reach his dargah during the Urs ceremony of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Religious programs are organized on this occasion, which include Hamd, Naat and Qawwali performances.
This Urs is celebrated with great pomp every year at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin, in which people from different communities participate. This occasion is considered a symbol of religious harmony and cultural diversity.
Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya was born in 1238 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He was a prominent Sufi saint of the Chishti sect, whose life was dedicated to religious harmony, love and service to humanity. He settled in Delhi and played an important role in the propagation of the Chishti sect.
Nizamuddin Auliya always preached that people of all religions and communities should live life with love and mutual respect. He gave the message of love and unity to the people to end the religious and cultural disparities prevalent in the society.

His most famous disciple was Amir Khusro, who made invaluable contributions in the field of music, poetry and literature. Apart from Amir Khusro, many others including Hazrat Nasiruddin Mahmood Chirag Dehlavi also became his followers.
