Every new technology brings with it several opportunities. The advent of wireless charging technology has also brought new career options for youths, especially for those pursuing B. Tech and science undergraduate courses, they could make the best of it.

There is good news for those taking short-term courses in optical fibre, magnetism and power transmission too.

First let’s understand what is wireless charging technology?

Many leading tech companies including Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola are offering wireless charging facility with mobile these days. Let's understand about the technology of wireless charging and the new career opportunities that arise from it ...

What is wireless charging?

Most wireless chargers use magnetic induction, so that the user does not need a wire to charge the device, instead the device starts charging as soon as it is placed on the charger. They use magnetism to transmit energy from one place to another.

How the wireless charger works?

The current coming from the wall will come into the wire in the wireless charger and create a magnetic field. The magnetic field will produce current in the coil in the device placed on the wireless charger. After this, this magnetic energy will be converted into electrical energy, which is used to charge the battery. To be able to use a wireless charger, your device must have the correct hardware to support this charger, as the device cannot be wirelessly charged without the necessary coil.

Emerging career option

Large technology companies of the country and the world are moving fast towards wireless charging. In the field of wireless charging system architects, integration engineers, optical engineers, embedded software engineers, hardware engineers and software engineers are required.

Work is decided according to roles.

The main job of a system architect is to develop power delivery products and platforms. It is a multi-technical domain work, which deals with digital and analogue hardware, embedded software, server side, applications, network architecture, optics, algorithms etc. Similarly, other job roles are of different manufacturing, designing, optical systems and modules.

How to make entry?

It is a radically developed form of engineering. So, there are good prospects for a science stream student.  B. Tech electrical, electronics and communication, computer science, BSc Physics and Computer Science also stand a good chance.

If you take a short-term course on optical fibre, magnetism and power transmission with BTech or BSc, it is quite beneficial for the student. Such studies are conducted in many universities and engineering colleges in the country. The Electronic Sector Skill Council of India also imparts training in developing basic understanding of electrical and electronics. Many short-term courses are being run.

Why more career opportunities?

Wireless charging technology is no longer limited to only mobile and smartwatches. Its scope is increasing. Emphasis is being laid on its use from micro, small-scale industries to other industries. Due to this, the market is growing rapidly at the global level. According to Allied Market Research, from 2020 to 2027, the sector will grow at a rate of around 23.4 percent. Globally, there will be a market of $ 49,304 million by 2027. Apart from electronic, this usage is increasing in the automotive, industrial, health care, aerospace and defence sectors. It is growing at a rate of 14.5% in India.

Where can you find jobs?

All major technology companies are adopting wireless charging technology. Apart from this, its use is also increasing in other sectors. Career opportunities exist in the areas of Resonant Technology segment, Consumer Applications, Inductive Technology and Health Care Applications. If we talk about industries in terms of employment, mainly electronics is a big employment sector. It has many forms including research and development, manufacturing, testing, technology integration. Apart from this, there are also career opportunities in the automotive, industrial, health care, energy, aerospace and defence sectors.

What are Indian prospects?

This technology of wireless charging is new in India. It also saves energy and there is no risk of electric shock, but this advanced technology also has some flaws. The time taken for wireless charging is very high and while charging the phone it is necessary to keep the coils of the phone and the charger coils together. Charging stops at the slightest movement. In such a situation, it seems that some improvements are needed in this technique. Trained people will be needed to research and develop new technology. But overall, there are immense possibilities of career.
