From rendering her voice to Faiz Ahmed Faiz's "Aaj Bazaar Mein" to Momin Khan Momin's "Woh joh hum me tum me qarar tha Nayyara Noor not only made these poems immortal but also easy to relish for a common music and poetry lover.
Not many know that Nayyara was born in Guwahati, Today's Assam in undivided India, in 1950, and her family left for Pakistan 10 years after the partition. Her father was an active member of the Muslim League of Pakistan's founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
Nayyara Noor flourished as a Ghazal singer in Pakistan where she has given the title of Bulbul-e-Pakistan. Yet she had a huge fan following in India where her death on August 20 was mourned.
Her talent was discovered during her performance at her alma mater, the National College of Arts, Lahore, Professor Asrar Ahmad of Islamia College spotted her talent and she soon became the leading voice at the university’s Radio Pakistan programmes. She later made her playback debut in 1971 with Pakistani serials and soon became a household name.
After her demise netizens took Twitter by storm and poured heartfelt condolences.

Rest in peace #NayyaraNoor - immensely talented, humble, publicity-shy star. We grew up with her voice on Radio, TV and cinema.
Her voice shall live on.
