Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today visited Ajmer, Rajasthan, where she paid obeisance at the shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty, also called Garib Nawaz.

Amidst tight security,  Sheikh Hasina prayed at the dargah of the most revered Sufi saint of the sub-continent. She was given a red-carpet welcome by the Sajjadanashin and Gaddinashin of the shrine. Hasina had paid respects at the shrine of Khwaja Nizamuddin Chisty in Delhi. She is on a four-day visit to India where she held bilateral talks with Indian leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Hasina had been a regular visitor to the shrines during her stay in Delhi from 1975 to 1981 after the assassination of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi had given asylum to Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana as Bangladesh underwent a tumultuous time after the killing of Sheikh Mujibur, the man responsible for the creation of the country.

On her arrival in Ajmer, Sheikh Hasina had also grooved to the folk songs at the Jaipur airport. The dance show was meant to welcome her.

Her next stop was the Ajmer shrine, where amidst tight security she can be seen paying obeisance.

According to the protocols followed for visits by a head of a nation, there was no other devotee on the shrine premises and the shrine markets were also closed.

Earlier on Wednesday she lauded India's support during Bangladesh's Liberation war of 1971, and reaffirmed her country's ties with India.

She emphasized the ties between the two countries and that the relationship goes far beyond strategic partnership.
