Professor Mohammad Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Hamdard University, said that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has producedn many scholars and eminent personalities who have contributed to India’s growth and stature. “AMU has made a significant contribution in developing education, science, politics, social service, and sports.”
He spoke at a conference on the "Role of Aligarh Muslim University in Nation Building" organized by the Muslim Student Organization (MSO), the largest organization of Indian Muslim students, in Deli.
Prof Alam was the chief guest and Shantanu Mukherjee, former National Security Advisor to the Mauritius government was the special guest of the conference
Professor Mohibul Haque, Department of Political Science, AMU, and Abdul Majid Nizami, Group Editor of the Urdu newspaper Rashtriya Sahara were the key speakers at the conference.

Shantanu Mukherjee highlighted AMU’s contribution to Indian literature. He said alumni of AMU made a big name in the film world; some are Saeed Jafri, Javed Akhtar, and Naseeruddin Shah.
Top-ranking Indian sports personalities like Major Dhyanchand and Lala Amarnath are also from the AMU. He said that AMU had always promoted mutual harmony and played a secular role.
Speaking at the conference, Professor Mohibul Haque called for an introspection. He said that AMU will have to look at its history and focus on producing alumni who contribute to the nation building and are always in service of the country and society.
Majid Nizami said that the first responsibility of spreading founder Sir Syed's mission and his vision to the world lies with the current and former students of Aligarh Muslim University. He also spoke on gender justice.

At the conference, MSO Chairman Dr. Shujaat Ali Qadri threw light on the history of the organization and its social service works. The conference was conducted by Khusro Foundation Convenor Dr. Hafizur Rahman. The vote of thanks was given by MSO National Campus Secretary Mohammad Yusuf.
