Assembly Polls: Low turnout in Maharashtra at 32.18%, Jharkhand at 47.92% at 1 pm

Maharashtra recorded a sluggish voter turnout of 32.18 percent in the single-phase assembly elections while a turnout of 47.92 percent was registered in the second phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand as of 1 pm, according to the Election Commission of India.

A naxal hit Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra recorded the highest voter turnout of 50.89 percent, while the district of Mumbai City recorded the lowest voter turnout of 27.73 percent till 1 pm, as per the data of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

As per the data of the ECI, Mumbai Suburban recorded a voter turnout of 30.43 percent, Nagpur 31.65 percent, Thane 28.35 percent, Aurangabad 33.89 percent, Pune 29.03 percent, Nashik 32.30 percent, Satara 34.78 percent, Kolhapur 38.56 percent, Dhule 34.05 percent, Palghar 33.40 percent, Ratnagiri 38.52 percent, Nanded 28.15 percent and Latur 33.27 percent.

Voter turnout for Sindhudurg was recorded at 38.34 percent, Wardha at 34.55 percent, Osmanabad at 31.75 percent, Washim at 29.31 percent, Yavatmal at 34.10 percent, Solapur at 29.44 percent, Sangli at 33.50 percent, Ahmednagar at 32.90 percent, Akola at 29.87 percent, Amravati at 31.32 percent, Beed at 32.58 percent, Bhandara at 35.06 percent, Buldhana at 32.91 percent, Chandrapur at 35.54 percent, Gondiya at 40.46 percent, Hingoli at 35.97 percent, Jalgoan at 27.88 percent Jalna at 36.42 percent, Nandurbar at 37.40 percent, Parbhani at 33.12 percent and Raigad at 34.84 percent.

In the second phase of assembly polls, Jharkhand recorded a turnout of 31.37 percent till 1 pm, with Pakur district with the highest turnout of 53.83 percent and Bokaro with the lowest turnout of 42.52 percent.

As per the ECI, Deoghar recorded a turnout of 49.83 percent, Dhanbad 43.16 percent, Dumka 50.28 percent, Giridih 48.01 percent, Hazaribagh 48.62 percent, Jamtara 52.21 percent, Ramgarh 51.26 percent, Ranchi 52.10 percent and Sahebganj 47.51 percent.

The voter turnout for the Nanded Parliamentary constituency in Maharashtra was recorded at 27.25 percent till 1 pm.

As by-polls are also underway on several seats, Kedarnath in Uttarakhand recorded a turnout of 34.40 percent while Palakkad in Kerala recorded a 40.16 percent turnout till 1 pm.

In the bye-elections of Punjab, as of 1 pm, a voter turnout for Gidderbaha was recorded at 50.09 percent, Dera Baba Nanak at 40.40 percent, Barnala at 28.10 percent and Chabbewal at 27.95 percent.

As of 1 pm, in Uttar Pradesh by-polls, Meerapur recorded a voter turnout of 36.77 percent, Majhwan 31.68 percent, Khair 28.80 percent, Phulpur 26.67 percent, Kundarki 41.01 percent, Karhal 32.29 percent, Katehari 36.54 percent, Ghaziabad 20.92 percent and Sishmau 28.50 percent.

Voting began at 7 am on Wednesday for the single phase of 288 seats of the Maharashtra assembly elections and the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, covering the remaining 38 seats.
