Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that the government would take care of the family of the horse owner Syed Adil Hussan Shah, who died trying to resist the attack by terrorists at Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on Tuesday.
“I am told he did not die just like that. He was a brave person; he tried to stop the attack and was killed in retaliation,” Abdullah told media persons after attending Shah’s funeral at his ancestral village of Hapathnad in Pahalgam, south Kashmir on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said Adil tried to snatch the gun from one of the terrorists to save the tourist who was riding his horse from Baisaran to Pahalgam.
The terrorist shot him dead.
Adil is the only local Kashmiri among the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Abdullah was accompanied by his party men to Adil Shah’s village, where he stayed till the burial and also interacted with his aged parents.
Speaking with media persons, Abdullah said, “Adil was a brave man. We will make sure to take care of his family. I came to express my grief to the family of Adil and attend his final rites.”
He said, “Adil was a poor man who was making his living by working hard. We will have to take care of his family; help them. I assured them that my government stands with them and will do its best to help them.”

Syed Hussain Shah’s mother, who spoke in the Gojari dialect, was weeping bitterly, wondering how she would survive.
His father said, “He (Syed Hussain Shah) had gone to Pahalgam to work... We got information about the attack at 3 o'clock. When we called (Syed Hussain Shah), the phone was not connected... We went to the police station and complained. After coming home, we got full information about the incident... We want justice... The culprits should be punished..."
