Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulema Hind, has supported the anti-conversion law of Haryana. He said the act of religious conversion by a person for the sake of getting married to a person of different faith was not the right thing to do.
Madani while supporting the anti-conversion law implemented in Haryana, said that the religion can not be forced on someone. It comes from within. “If I believe in something and believe it is right, I will adopt it. One should not change religion only to get married,” he said in the middle of the debate on the law and poublic debate about "love jihad".
It may be noted that Haryana State has implemented a law that bars conversions from one religion to another.
On Tuesday, the Governor of Haryana approved the law banning religious conversion.
In such a situation, no woman or man in Haryana will change religion for marriage. The Haryana government has also issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, a provision has been made for severe punishment for forced conversion. The violators face jail terms up to 10 years and a fine of up to 5 lakh rupees.
