The election for 70 seats of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi has largely turned out to be a triangular contest among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress.
The people of Delhi will have to decide the fate of these three parties in the ongoing polling today. The results will be out on Friday February 8.
The BJP is trying to make a comeback in Delhi after 26 years and has campaigned aggressively the AAP government and its leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed five rallies and senior BJP leaders highlighted the efforts made towards development and targeted the incumamnt AAP government and mainly its leader Arvind Kerjiwal for governance failures and corruption.
The stakes are so high for the BJP that it took a PM Modi to launch a last minute scathing attack on the AAP accusing its leaders of bad governance and corruption. It may be recalled that former Chief Minister and leader of the AASP Arvind kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia are embroiled in corruption cases and are out on the bail.
Home Minister Amit Shah accused the AAP of corruption and urged voters to "press the BJP's lotus symbol so hard". UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also cornered the AAP on the issue of illegal immigrants and accused it of a role in the 2020 Delhi riots.
The BJP has fielded its candidates on 68 of the 70 seats and allotted two seats each to its allies like the Janata Dal (United) and the Lok Janshakti Party. The party has presented a development-driven agenda.
The Congress, which failed to win a single seat in the last two assembly elections, is trying to make a comeback in Delhi.
Led by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress has accused the two major parties of failing to fulfill promises. These leaders said their party would revive the development work by Sheila Dikshit.
The Congres s aattacked the AAP and the BJP to regain lost ground in Delhi but it faces a divided opposition scenario as many members of the All India Block who supported the AAP will also vote this time.
The Congress targeted both Modi and Kejriwal. The party alleged that both BJP and AAP have failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Delhi. Congress says that the development that happened in Delhi under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit has now been lost. This time the Congress party is making full efforts to regain its lost ground in Delhi.
In the last hour of election campaign, all three parties made several sharp allegations and promises to woo voters. BJP accused AAP of corruption and governance failures, while AAP accused BJP of obstructing the pace of development and rejecting Delhi's model of development. Congress called both the major parties failures in the direction of development and vowed to restore the development of Sheila Dikshit's tenure as chief minister.
Interestingly, late Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit is also contesting this time.
AAP leader Atishi accused BJP of luring voters with money, saris and shoes, while Sanjay Singh accused BJP of "hooliganism" and "putting up obstacles against development".

With the end of the election campaign deadline at 6 pm on Monday, the road shows ended and the speeches stopped. Now all the parties are focused only on the verdict of the voters.
In all 699 candidates are in the contest on 70 seats.
