Rebel Shiv Sena Leader, Eknath Shinde has taken oath as the new Maharashtra Chief Minister, a day after Uddhav Thackeray tendered his resignation, bringing an end to the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state.
BJP leader and former CM, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Deputy CM. Earlier Fadnavis had announced that he would remain out of the government.
On Thursday evening, Shinde along with Fadnavis met governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to stake claim to form government in the state.

Shinde who claims to have the support of close to 50 Shiv Sena MLAs rebelled against the party leadership earlier this month. Along with the BJP he now has a majority in the 288-member state assembly. The majority mark is 144.
The BJP has 106 MLAs in the Legislative Assembly.

Uddhav Thackeray had resigned from the CMship and the Legislative Council on Wednesday night minutes after the Supreme Court dismissed the Shiv Sena plea to stall the floor test called by the governor on Thursday morning.
