After 14 years of their independent existence, the two factions of the largest pre-partition party of Muslims - Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind – one led by Maulana Mahmood Madani and the other by his uncle Maulana Arshad Madani, are mulling of a major reconciliation in view of the burning problems of the community and the nation.

A meeting of the working Committee of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind passed a resolution asking for strengthening and completing the reconciliation efforts and in the direction asked all the functionaries to submit their resignation to the Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani.

A release of the JUH said, “The issue of the ongoing reconciliation process in the Jamiat Ulamai-Hind was discussed for a long time. After long deliberation, it was unanimously approved that the Working Committee of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind appreciates the recent reconciliation process of the organisation and agrees to take forward the process of reconciliation.”

Besides the meeting held discussions on the “on-going communal situation, hate crime, protection of the constitution and many important issues facing the nation and the community.”

The Jamiat officials at district levels have been directed to organize training programs for workers. It also decided to hold a consultative meeting with the officials of the organizations of the backward classes to resolve their problems.

Maulana Madani expressed concern over the current situation in the country and said that we need to make every effort. He highlighted the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind’s initiative in conducting an interfaith harmony program and also taking all constitutional and social efforts to fight hate crime incidents.

He however said that the situation cannot improve without the adoption of the right policy by the government. Maulana Madani called for concerted efforts to solve the problems of the backward classes urgently.

The Working committee has authorized Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani to continue the process of reconciliation in accordance with Jamita’s Constitution and it also considers it necessary that the concerned parties should not only limit themselves to verbal discussions but present their suggestions and positions in written form. In a resolution approved by the Working Committee about the prevailing Communal Situations, it said that "religious fanaticism and insulting of religious leaders as promoted by political leaders is a grave threat to the country and would tarnish the image of the country among the global fraternity."

In particular, the derogatory statements by the ruling party, its associated political leaders, and even members of parliament and members of the assemblies must be stopped immediately. Because, they affect a large section of society. To remedy these situations, the Supreme Court also issued guidelines in the Tahseen Poonawala case in 2018, but unfortunately, the governments did not pay enough attention to it.

While hearing the petition, the Supreme Court asked the governments for a report on the steps taken in this regard. This meeting considers this constitutional initiative of the President of

Jamiat Ulam-i-Hind hopes the Supreme Court will issue an effective directive to crack down on communalism.

The release said: “Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind appealed to all its units to organise in the light of the proposal of the meeting of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (held on 28, 29, May 2022) meetings of influential people of all religions and establish a Sadbhawna Committee under Jamiat Sadbhava Manch."

Though the two leaders have spoken about the need for reconliation many a time in the part, this seems to be far serious efforts. However, it;'s yet not clear if the two factions will coalsce or they would have an understanding on crucial issue.
