2 JK bureaucrats to receive PM's excellence awards

New Delhi

Two senior bureaucrats from Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar have been selected for the prestigious Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration-2022.

They have been selected in the category of Innovation and Aspirational District. Both of them belong to J&K.

Shahid Iqbal Choudhary is a 2009 batch officer from J&K Cadre and is posted as Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, and Director of J&K Mission Youth, and Skill Development Missions.

He happens to be the first Muslim from a tribal community (Gujjars) in the Jammu region to clear the UPSC civil services examination. He has already received several national awards for his work.

Shahid who has been conferred the PM award for record 3rd time clinched the recognition being at the top innovations among all States and UTs for Mission Youth while Sehrish topped in Aspirational Districts category for Baramulla district.

Dr. Sehrish Asgar is presently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, in north Kashmir,

She is the first Muslim woman from Kashmir to become an IAS officer (2011 batch). She had earlier qualified as a J&K Civil services KAS examination and also IPS.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated Dr Choudhary and Asghar for the prestigious award.

So far, 2520 nominations have been received for the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration, 2022 designed to acknowledge, recognize and reward exemplary work done by civil servants across the country

The awards are scheduled to be distributed during the celebration of Civil Services Day, 2023 in Vigyan Bhawan on April 21.
