A local Kashmiri, who was working as a porter with tourists, was among 27 persons killed in the Pahalgam attack by terrorists in south Kashmir on April 22.
Syed Hassan Shah was hit by a terrorist's bullets as he was trying to save a family at the Bisaran resort of Pahalgam.
Locals have praised Shah for his integrity and bravery:

Hailing from a nearby village of Hapathnad in Pahalgam, Syed Hassan Shah was the only breadwinner of his family.
Syed Hussain Shah’s mother, who spoke in the Gojari dialect, was weeping bitterly, wondering how she would survive.

He was the only bread earner of the family, making a livelihood for his family by giving horse rides to the tourists!

His father said, “He (Syed Hussain Shah) had gone to Pahalgam to work... We got information about the attack at 3 o'clock. When we called (Syed Hussain Shah), the phone was not connected... We went to the police station and complained. After coming home, we got full information about the incident... We want justice... The culprits should be punished..."
