Kuldeep Singh Rajawat has been teaching Maths, Science, and English at a Madrasa - Islamic seminary - in Jaipur, Rajasthan, for the last 16 years.

Rajawat, who is a Hindu, teaches in the madrasa located in the Kho Nagorian area of Jaipur, the Madrasa's all Muslim students. It bellies the perception that the Madrasa students are only imparted Islamic and related education and the Madrasa teachers are always Muslims.

At Kausar Public School Madrasa, the students apart from Urdu and Arabic, are also taught modern subjects like computers. The head of the madrasa, Farhan Israeli, said that he wants to end the differences between Hindus and Muslims.

This madrasa was established in 2006 by his father Maulvi Mohammad Hassan Israeli. At that time, it used to be the only educational institution in the Nagorian area.

Two years later, Kuldeep Singh Rajawat was appointed as a teacher by the Rajasthan Madrasa Board. Since then, Kuldeep Singh Rajawat has been teaching all modern subjects to the students.

Kuldeep Singh Rajawat says that he never felt that he was among people of a different religion. He is doing a very good job of educating the children of the Muslim community. We need more such teachers in society who have a feeling of love and goodwill towards each other.

Kuldeep Singh Rajawat was honoured and awarded as the best teacher at a special ceremony on Teachers' Day on 5 September. All the madrasas of Jaipur celebrated the day following instructions of District Minority Welfare Officer Abhishek Siddha.

On this occasion, Rajawat told students that a teacher is like a lighted candle that lights up others. They impart the knowledge to the students so that they can learn and become good citizens.

Madrasa director Farhan Israeli said how important it is to show gratitude and respect to our teachers.
