Munshi Premchand Jayanti is celebrated to honour the life and contributions of the renowned Indian writer Premchand. Today is the 143rd birth anniversary of the legendary author who touched the hearts of millions with his magical writing ability.

The author’s real name was Dhanpat Rai who was born on July 31, 1880, in Lamhi, a village near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. With his writing prowess he achieved a prominent place in Urdu and Hindi literature, Munshi Premchand tried to focus on the struggles of common people, particularly those in rural areas.

Premchand had faced huge financial crisis when he was a young boy and his real-life struggle influenced his writing. Through his novels and short stories, he pointed out the complications of human relationships, poverty, caste discrimination and social injustices. He had written more than 12 novels and nearly 300 short stories which are considered to be the masterpieces .

His debut novel, 'Asrar-e-Ma'abid' was published in 1902 and since then his journey to fame began. His significant novels 'Nirmala', 'Bewa'. 'Chaugan-e-Hasti' and 'Godan' brought him the glory that he truly deserved.
