Indian Foreign Service (IFS) trainee officers of the 2021 batch met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Prime Minister congratulated the trainee IFS officers on joining the service and said that they got an opportunity to represent India on the world stage.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present in the informal meeting. Doval spoke to the trainee diplomats on several issues and asked them pointedly the motive behind joining the service. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishakar was also present on the occasion.
He discussed with them the importance of Millets in view of the United National declaring 2023 as The International Year of Millets. He discussed with the would-be diplomats their role in popularizing the millets. This, in turn, would benefit the Indian farmers who are cultivating millets in a big way.

He explained how millets are an eco-friendly crop and have immense health benefits. He explained how one can bring about LIFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) and small changes in one's lifestyle to benefit the environment.
The trainee officers discussed the 'Panch Pran' (Five promises) that Prime Minister, in his Independence Day speech, had asked the youth of India to make to themselves for nation-building. He asked the IFS trainee officers to contribute towards achieving the target.

Modi exhorted the officers to think and have long-term plans say for the next 25 years for setting the goal for self-improvement and in turn, contribute to the nation’s development.
