Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered his condolences to Shahnaz Khan, wife of former bureaucrat and author S M Khan, on the passing away of her husband. Khan, former Press Secretary to President APJ Abdul Kalam, passed away on November 17 at the age of 67.
In a letter addressed to Mrs Shahnaz Khan from his camp office Guyana, a country that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently visiting, he wrote:
“I am saddened to learn about the demise of Mr. S.M. Khan Ji. My condolences are with the family in this difficult time.

“As a hardworking and dedicated officer of the Indian Information Service, Mr. S.M. Khan Ji worked in many departments. With his experience and skill, he fulfilled various challenging responsibilities with full dedication.
“It is difficult to express in words the pain of emptiness that his demise has brought in your life. Today he is not in this world in physical form, but the memories and life values associated with him will always remain with the family.”
I pray that the bereaved family and well-wishers get the patience and strength to bear this loss.”

S M Khan was laid to rest in his ancestral village in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh on November 18.
