New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a cast of the national emblem of India, an adaptation of the Ashokan Lion at Sarnath on the roof of the new parliament building in the capital.

The new parliament building which is part of the central vista can accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha, and 384 in the Rajya Sabha and has more than 1200 seats for a joint session.

The emblem was created by sculptors Sunil Deore and Laxman Vyas. It is more than 4 meters wide and 6.5 meters tall and has been made entirely of bronze.

The national emblem depicts four lions back-to-back. The profile shows three lions with a Dharma Chakra, a bull and a horse underneath with the motto Satyamev Jayate written below it.

The new parliament building is expected to be ready by October.
