Sarpanch Zarina leads in making hospital Covid ready

Zarina Khan, Sarpanch of Beswa village in Shekhawati region of Rajasthan is an inspirational leader. If years earlier, farmers had donated land for the construction of a Community Health Center (CHC)  in the village now they are donating money to equip it will all the equipment to meet the challenges of the surging Covid-19 wave across India.

Setting an example of self-help, the villagers have donated in cash and kind to get all the missing paraphernalia of the CHC, Beswa.

Zarina Khan eads this otherwise male-dominated society in raising funds for equipping the hospital with an ambulance, oxygen concentrators.

The Bhamasha Muslims, as the community is known as, have so far donated money for buying an ambulance equipped with all emergency medical tools, four oxygen concentrators and 10 beds to make the CHC ready for beating the Covid-19 wave.

The money transfer for buying six more oxygen concentrators is in the pipeline.

Villager Shaukat Khan Comrade has donated an ambulance and an oxygen concentrator.

The Baswa Welfare Society of Beswa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has raised Rs two lakh for the hospital; Kamal Kulhari and sarpanch Zarina Khan also donated one oxygen concentrator each.

Aziz Khan donated towards providing ten beds.

The villages held a meeting and praised the efforts of Dr Idris and his team, in charge of the hospital, for their patience and hard work in the crisis.

Arshad Khan, an IPS officer, who also happens to be the husband of the sarpanch has expressed his gratitude to all the donors. He said this spirit of unity of the people will lead to the end of Covid-19 pandemic.

The hospital is expected to start a Covid Care Center at Beswa and cater to the village and neighbouring villages.

Beswa village is home to the largest Kayamkhani Muslims and the villages are proud of having re-elected Zarina Khan, a post-graduate in history as their sarpanch a second time.
