Liaquat Khan, a retired block development officer of Chandaini village in the Nuh district of Haryana, is eager to see the World Cup match to be played between Pakistan and India on October 14 at Ahmedabad. He has a special reason for this. He is expecting to meet the Pakistani cricketer and their son-in-law Hasan Ali, his daughter, and granddaughter after two years.

Hasan Ali's wife Samia Khan belongs to the Chandaini village in the Nuh district of Haryana. Samia and Hassan Ali got married in Abu Dhabi in 2019.

Samia Khan has not returned to India after her wedding. Liaquat Ali Khan attended his daughter's wedding in Abu Dhabi.

Liaquat Khan says, “My wife went to Pakistan in 2021 when my daughter was expecting and stayed there for her delivery. I hope we will meet again in Ahmedabad. I am desperate to meet my granddaughter.”

Hasan Ali, the fast bowler in the national team, was selected for the World Cup as a replacement for Hasan Ali, who sustained an injury before the team flew to India.

This quirk of destiny has made both the India-Pakistan families happy as it would be Liaquat’s first meeting with her granddaughter.

Liaquat Khan says, “I follow Rumi whom I read during my college days -Listen to your heart, not the crowd.”

He says, “My daughter works as a flight engineer with the Emirates Airlines. She and Hasan Ali met in Dubai. Samia told me about Hassan and I trusted her decision on the selection of her partner.

Asked whom will he support in the India-Pakistan matches, he said, “I have seen Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin playing. I am a fan of Virat Kohli. I like Virat Kohli very much.”

The 63-year-old retired bureaucrat said, “I don't think there is any better player than Virat Kohli at this time. Yes, he was out of form for some time, but now he is back in form. When I meet Hasan, I will request him to introduce me to the players of our team (India). I want to take a photo with Virat Kohli and say hello to Rahul Dravid.”

Wishing for a mutual series between India and Pakistan, he said, I want more cricket between India and Pakistan."
