Pollard was associated with Ambanis-owned MI for 13 years and played a key-role in its five IPL titles.
He will however, be retained by the franchise as a batting coach and will also play in the Emirates League.
It was his all-round performance at the Champions League in 2009 that drew the attention of the IPL franchises.
Pollard was bought by MI in 2010 for an undisclosed sum after a four-way tie-break between Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
After his base price was set at USD 200,000, the four franchises quoted USD 7,50,000 for him. MI managed to win after each of the four franchise was asked to list a price on a blank cheque.
