Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj won the 'Fielder of the Match' award for his exceptional fielding in India's 7-wicket victory over the USA in the ICC T20 World Cup. Honored by Yuvraj Singh, Siraj's athletic catch and a crucial run-out highlighted his impact. Indian fielding coach T. Dilip praised the team's consistency and resilience. Let's learn more about him in detail.

The 27-year-old Indian right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Siraj is renowned for his lethal yorkers. Born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, Mohammad Siraj's rise was remarkably swift. The son of an auto-rickshaw driver in Hyderabad, Siraj started playing cricket only in the seventh grade.

Growing up as the son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Siraj faced many hardships due to his family's limited income. His journey to becoming a cricketer was unconventional as he did not attend any cricket academy nor had any formal coach. Driven by his passion for the game, Siraj played gully cricket with a tennis ball and often skipped classes to participate in the sport.

In 2015, he bowled with a cricket ball for the first time. In 2017, he secured an IPL contract worth 2.6 crore INR. Months later, he was bowling in a T20 international match against New Zealand wearing India's jersey.

Strong and athletic, Siraj's run-up is deceptive, initially suggesting a left-arm bowler. However, he is a right-arm bowler and has admitted to specializing in swinging the ball towards right-handed batsmen. He has always been capable of delivering a very fast bouncer, which impressed his captain David Warner, and team mentor VVS Laxman in the Sunrisers Hyderabad setup.

His potential turned into performance in his second season of the Ranji Trophy, where he was his state's highest wicket-taker with 41 wickets in nine matches. He was then selected to play for Rest of India and included in the India A team for the tour of South Africa in July-August 2017. Shortly after, he joined the big league.
