BCCI has named Shahbaz Ahmed as the replacement for Washington Sundar for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
This is Shahbaz Ahmed’s first national call-up. The 27-year-old all-rounder made a name for himself in playing for Bengal in the domestic circuit. He also had a decent IPL outing with the Royal Challengers Bangalore this year.
Washington Sundar injured his shoulder while playing a County game in England. He has been ruled out of the entire Zimbabwe tour.
This is the latest in a long list of injuries Sundar has suffered in the recent months. He missed the home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka earlier this year due to a hamstring injury. Earlier in January he was sidelined from India’s tour of South Africa after testing Covid positive.
India will play the first ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on August 18.
KL Rahul is the captain of the Indian side with Shikhar Dhawan his deputy.
