Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy made history on Friday by becoming the first Indian men's pair to secure a medal in BWF World Championships after defeating the Japanese duo of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi in the quarterfinals.
Fresh from their Commonwealth games gold medal finish, the Indian pair won the match in the three games 24-22, 15-21, 21-14.
With the match level at one-game a-piece, Shetty and Chirag were in their absolute best in the decider outplaying the Japanese 21-14 to seal their semifinal spot.
This will be India's second medal at the Championships from a doubles pair. In 2011, the women’s doubles pair of Ponappa and Jwala Gutta had won a bronze medal at the prestigious championship.
