A heartwarming story of how education can change lives and end financial and social deprivations has emerged from Kodliwad village near Yaragattof Kodli Wada in North Karnataka as the son of a local shepherd has cleared the UPSC Civil Servies examination to become an Indian administrative officer.
Hanumanthappa Nandi secured All India Rank 910 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024.
"He is happy with his result, which allows him to join the Railway services. However, he plans to write the exam again to improve his rank, aiming for a spot under 500."
Hanumanthappa Nandi was born into a financially and socially marginalized family. His father Yellapan used to herd sheep, and his mother Kalava worked in the fields.

His family lived in extreme poverty, with no background in civil services or higher education. However, the family dreamed of seeing their son getting educated and in high places.
Not only the son but his parents too showed strength to help their son rise above circumstances and make them proud.
Hanumanthapa has secured the 910th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, the result of which was declared recently. Importantly he succeeded in the eighth attempt. He said, "I am very happy. I have written the Mains examination three times. I was also preparing for the KPSC examinations. I dedicate this success to my parents and friends who supported me all through. I will never forget them."
Hanumanthappa's community celebrating his success
As soon as this news reached his home everyone cried in joy. His father, mother, wife Yashoda, and brother Anand, everyone broke down. The entire village was filled with pride. The boy who once studied in the village government school has today become a new ray of hope and inspiration for the community. Hanumantapa's story is very inspiring.
He studied from class 1 to 7 at the government primary school Kodli Wada, then completed high school at Satyagiri, and did his PUC from KCD College, Dharwad. He completed his BE (Mechanical Engineering) from Gogeta Institute of Technology, Belagavi. Through a government scholarship, he went to prepare for the Delhi Civil Services, a year that became the foundation of his success. He worked hard at prestigious coaching centers like Shankara IAS, Insights IAS, and Akka IAS.
Hanumantappa lived in a small rented room in Bengaluru. Hanumanthapa dreams of serving the poor and the underprivileged. He wants to join the Indian Revenue Service or the Indian Railway Service.
