The women students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have a chance to prove themselves in swimming as a pool for their training and use has been thrown open.

The swimming pool at Abdullah Women's College was inaugurated by AMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Tariq Mansoor.

Dr Tariq Mansoor says that the opening of the swimming pool is a dream that the founder Sir Syed Ahmed had seen women doing well in every field and is now fulfilled. He said the girl students have an opportunity to prove themselves in sports of swimming. He said that swimming is an important exercise for health.

Dr Hameeda Tariq, the wife of the Vice-Chancellor, said that the facility will enable women to prepare for national and international swimming competitions.

AMU's Women's College was established by the efforts of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and his wife Begum Waheed. College Principal Professor Naeema Khatoon says that the founder of Women's College, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and his wife Begum Waheed Jahan had dreamed 100 years ago that the students of this place should bring glory to the college by participating in swimming.

Abdullah Hall's Provost Professor Gajala Naheed said that now the girls have to make use of this opportunity and show their resolve to make it big in sports.
