As winds of change are blowing in the Islamic world in favour of women’s rights, a recent Fatwa of an Egyptian Islamic scholar has said it's not the responsibility of a woman to serve her husband.

Mufti Dr. Ahmed Karima, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence and Islamic Law at the famous Al-Azhar University of Egypt, has ruled that a wife is not required to serve her husband at home.

His statement has caused a stir on social media and kicked off a debate.

Karima said: “a wife does not need to serve her husband although serving at her husband's home is virtuous behaviour and the strength of marriage in Islam.

He further said that according to jurisprudence, the wife can serve the husband, this is a legitimate practice, but the husband must also help the wife.
