The city of Markham in Ontario province of Canada has named a road after the world-renowned musician A R Rahman.

The Grammy-Oscar winner Rahman inaugurated the road named after him on Twitter.

He also thanked Mayor Frank Scarpetti and the people of Canada in his message posted on Twitter.

AR Rahman wrote, “I never imagined this in my life. I am very grateful to all of you, the Mayor of Canada, Canada (Frank Scarpetti) and counselors, the Indian Consulate General (Apurva Srivastava), and the people of Canada. In 2013, he shared a photo of himself holding a board that read, 'Allah Rakha Rehman St.

He added, "The name AR Rahman is not mine. It means Merciful. Merciful is the quality of God that we all have and only one can be a servant of Rahman. So, this name May it brings peace, prosperity, happiness, and health to all living in Canada. God bless you all. I want to thank my brothers and sisters in India for all the love. All the creative people who have supported me. Worked with, inspired me to stand up and celebrate 100 years of cinema. With all the legends. I am a very small drop in the ocean."

I feel like it gives me a lot of responsibility to do a lot and be impressive. I am neither tired nor retired yet … even if I do, I will remember that I have more things to do, more people to connect with, and many more bridges to cross.

Rahman started his career in films in the early 1990s and rose to fame after composing the music for the hit Hindi film Roza.

His next venture will be filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Puneyan Selvan, one of the most anticipated films of 2022 in which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is playing a double role. The film will be released on September 20 with dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam languages.
