Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, leader of the global Dawoodi Bohra community has brought glory to his community after being honoured with the ‘Nile Sash’ by Egypt.
The prestigious award was conferred on the Bohra community leader by the President of Egypt, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, as a token of appreciation for his continuous efforts towards cultural, charitable and social causes in Egypt.
It is understood that President El-Sisi praised the long-standing ties between Egypt and the Bohra community and expressed his appreciation for Syedna Saifuddin’s role in renovating historical shrines and mosques in Egypt. He also recognized his philanthropic activities across India.
Syedna Saifuddin has played an active role In restoring ancient Fatimi monuments in Cairo which date back to the tenth and twelfth century. In the late seventies, his efforts led to restoration of the nine century old masjid of Imam al-Hakim, also known as al-Jami al-Anwar. He also contributed to renovation and restoration of various mosques including Al-Hussein, Al-Sayyeda Nafisa and Al-Sayyeda.
During the interaction, Syedna Saifuddin commended the President’s leadership in promoting religious tolerance and coexistence. He also lauded Egypt’s active regional and international role and support for issues that are important to the Islamic world. Syedna Saifuddun also prayed for the continued development and progress of the nation.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Major General Abbas Kamel , head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate and Syedna Saifuddin’s family members.
