US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan today complimented National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for his vision of the India-U.S. relationship.

Sullivan is currently on a two-day visit to co-chair with NSA Doval the third review meeting of the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), which marks the pinnacle of the India-US partnership to develop advanced military hardware.

Delivering a lecture on “The United States and India: Building a Shared Future” at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, Sullivan said. “… his vision that technology particularly advanced technologies of the future would be a propellent for the US-India relationship in a way that could take our two countries forward, advance our respective interests; protect our respective values; and build a better world for everybody”

He said that through this partnership, initiatives and so many other things “that Ajit (Doval)and I had to deal with in the course of past four years, he and I had developed a deep personal relationship; a deep professional relationship. It is this relationship, I believe, that has played such a critical role in ensuring that the India-US partnership reaches a high level.”

His visit marks the last formal interaction between the Indian side and the outgoing Joe Biden administration.

At the IIT, Sullivan said the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) is a people’s initiative. “However, I owe in many ways to one man – my Indian counterpart Ajit Doval’s vision.

The iCET was launched in January 2023 and two rounds of review have already taken place.  Sullivan came to India for the second meeting on the iCET in June 2024, when the two sides agreed on the next steps in their strategic technology partnership and pledged to remove long-standing barriers to strategic trade.

The visit comes a little more than a week after Jaishankar met Sullivan in the US on December 27. Jaishankar also met Michael Waltz, nominated by Trump for the post of national security advisor.
