Reports suggest that the price negotiations between India and France have been tough, but France has now offered a significant reduction for the deal. Last week, a French team was in New Delhi to finalize the discussions, and both sides are eager to complete the contract by the end of this financial year.
India has specific demands for the Rafale jets, such as integrating the indigenous Uttam radar and Indian-made weapons like the Astra missiles and Rudram anti-radiation missiles. However, adding these features would take more time and increase costs.
The 26 Rafale Marine jets are crucial for the Indian Navy, as they will enhance its maritime strike capabilities and replace the older MiG-29 aircraft currently in use. The deal includes 22 single-seat Rafale Marine jets and 4 twin-seat trainer versions, which will be deployed on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and other naval bases.

This deal would mark India’s second major purchase of fighter jets from France in recent years and is expected to be finalized by the end of the fiscal year.
