Senior US diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad has expressed his concern at Pakistan’s current situation and particularly over the control of its nuclear assets as being in the hands of the “angry Army chief General Asim Munir.”
In a series of tweets, Khalilzad, who was the US representative during the long negotiations that led to the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and the return of the Taliban to Kabul under what is today known as the Doha agreement, said he was disturbed over the situation in Pakistan
Directly attacking Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, Khalilzad wondered “Such a volatile, angry, and self-absorbed person must not have his finger on a nuclear button.”
He claimed that he reliably got General Munir's speech that he made at a closed-door meeting at Sailkot and it disturbed him:
I was concerned for #Pakistan before, but a recent speech by the Army Chief has led me to believe that things are truly dire. His closed-door angry tirade to senior officers in Sialkot has been reliably shared with me. The entire speech was alarming but two points stand out:(1/6)

Khalilzad said while the violence should be investigated he was against the threats issued to the "wives and children" of those involved. he also accused him of using "gutter language"
He wrote:
First, he threatened the wives and children of his critics. The May 9 violence was not a good thing and should be transparently investigated, but that is no excuse for threatening harm to innocent family members of retired officers who may have participated. (2/6)
