On the eve of New Year, The US-based mountaineer Hedayat Ali of Assam fluttered the floral gamocha, a white and red scarf that is the symbol of Assamese pride, at the top of Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica.
Hedayat Ali, a member of Explorers, an adventure sports organization of Guwahati, completed his expedition amidst minus 45 degree Celsius. He achieved the feat on December 24, but the news could only come out of the icy landscape on New Year's day due to communication difficulties.
