Suhail Anwar's success in the NEET examination is yet another story of human grit and strong willpower overcoming financial difficulties. He has secured 616 marks out of 720 and is all set to join a medical college and become a doctor.
Sohail Anwar hails from the Jadugar locality of Murshidabad in West Bengal where he lives with his father Bani Israel (48) and mother Kais Bano (44). His mother makes beedis for a local company and his father is a street hawker.
He sells bedsheets in villages on his bicycle. However, his business was badly affected due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Despite Sohail's parents working hard, the family income never exceeded Rs.10,000 per month.
To augment the family’s income, Sohail also used to work as a beedi-make along with his mother to add to her income.
Sohail Anwar says that he was inspired by his elder brother who is studying to be a doctor. His brother also helped him in preparing for the examination. Having cleared it, Sohail is now hoping to get into a good medical college in West Bengal.
Two years ago, elder brother Sayeed had got admission into Murshidabad Medical College where he is completing his MBBS course. To support his studies, Saeed also gives tuition to students in Behrampur. He said that his uncle, who is a WBCS officer, also encouraged him to appear for the NEET examination.
Sohail's father, Israel, is happy with the success of his son, and he profusely thanks the Almighty for it. He said, "I haven’t been able to do much except build a small two-room house for my children." Israel, the head of a family of eight, says the success of his sons feels like a dream.
Sohail has completed his higher secondary from a school in Malda with 83 percent marks. After this, took the coaching of NEET at Al-Ameen Mission, Howrah, and had been preparing for the examination for two years. Sohail says that he has also been helping his family financially during his studies.
